I am such an emotional sap... when I read the title tears sprang to my eyes. It reminded me of so many recipes in my mom's cookbook that were in my grandma's hand with the word "receipt" on the scrap of paper.
Thanks for your comment! I set this up and haven't had a chance to post any here yet.
Just have to give you one of these ((((((((( hug! )))))))) I get a lump in my throat everything I think of my grandma, too :)
I don't have a scanner, and I don't even have my grandma's old recepit box...I wish I did! But many of the things she made were basic, and she kept them in a 3x5 card box, clipped from magazines and handwritten and such. That's what mine now looks like, so in her memory, I carry her receipt-box system and a whole lot of sentiment along whenever I cook...she is very much in my thoughts especially during those times.
This blog is dedicated to the wonderful kitchens, memories, and lives of my two remarkable grandmothers. The name of this blog is reminiscent of their times, when recipes were called "receipts" and the family table was the heart of the home. I have very few of their recipes, but have found it fulfilling to stash away some of my own favorite recipes in my own little file box filled with 3x5 cards, much as they did. They carried most of their recipes in their memories, and whenever I cook I think of them.
I am slowly moving over the archived recipe posts from my main blog, The Back Forty, to this site, and afterwards will post anything related to cooking here with a bit less commentary and more streamlined "receipts."
Please feel welcome to contribute your own recipes...if you have a particular favorite, I'd love to have you post yours as a guest and as a friend!
